Disaster Prevention Mechanism for EV Charging Station

The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau has actively promoted the development of an EV-friendly charging environment. To date, 738 charging stations have been installed across 121 public parking lots to meet the growing demand for EVs. The bureau plans to continue increasing the number of charging stations, ensuring at least 2% of parking spaces in each parking lot are equipped with chargers to enhance convenience.

Kaohsiung aims to expand its EV charging infrastructure to 2,000 charging stations in public parking lots by 2030. To ensure safety, the bureau has implemented a four-layer disaster prevention mechanism, including:

    1. Thermal Imaging Cameras
    2. Intelligent Automatic Notification Systems
    3. Low-Pressure Water Mist Firefighting Equipment
    4. Fire Blankets and Firefighting Measures Specifically for EVs

These measures aim to reduce risks and damages from EV fires and promote awareness of EV charging safety management.

    Future Plans and Collaboration

The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau is working with EV manufacturers, charging station operators, and Taiwan Power Company to implement a "user-pays" model for future charging stations. This approach prevents non-EV vehicles or idle vehicles from occupying charging spaces. These initiatives not only improve the charging experience for EV owners but also support Kaohsiung's goal of becoming a low-carbon city.
