Kaohsiung City this year has become a co-host of Smart City Summit & Expo, and on March 24, 2021, Xin-Rong Lin, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City hosted New Southbound International Smart City Forum. Ming-Hsin Kung, Minister, National Development Council, Swee Peng Sharon Ho, Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, Rishikesh Swaminathan, Vice President, India-Taipei Association all personally arrived at the forum, and held online forum with new southbound countries’ representatives and vendors.
Ming-Hsin Kung of Minister, National Development Council said, smart city will drive industry, and industry will assist smart city. Southbound technology industry is shaping into settlements (clusters). Kaohsiung as a smart city’s newcomer is happening now, with the announced central funding policy for 350 million dollars USD over 5 years to shape Asia New Bay Area into Taiwan’s most comprehensive 5G AIoT trial site. This is National Development Council’s vision for Kaohsiung – The Smart City system integration solutions that can be exported to new southbound countries. The Asian Silicon Valley development plan will also implement O-RAN structural standards, provide test sites for domestic network transmission equipment manufacturers, reduce the cost of 5G infrastructure for telecommunications manufacturers and realize "Made in Taiwan" network transmission equipment to the international market.
Xin-Rong Lin, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City introduced Kaohsiung’s smart city plan and strategy, and used implemented examples to share how smart technologies assisted in industrial city transformation. When Xin-Rong Lin, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City, was sharing the experiences in digital city transformation, he said, smart city is a high valued-added, and high economic impact system integration construction. Kaohsiung City has a tropical ocean environment, and has an international seaport and an international airport. These make Kaohsiung very suitable for smart city’s export site.
International Panel Discussion was hosted by Ken-Huang Lin, Professor, National Sun Yat-sen University, and with “Industrial City’s Digital Transformation” as the theme, invited Secom Group, FongShan Water Resource Plant, Lao ICT Commerce Association, and Indonesian IoT Association representatives to share opportunities, difficulties and solutions faced for the subject of industrial city digital transformation. The second panel discussion’s theme was “Post Covid-19 Era - Sharing of Technology Application Cases” invited Far Eastone Telecomm. Co., LTD., Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital, Philippines Software Industry Association, and NASSCOM from India, sharing how technologies are used to help industries revitalization and citizens healthcare…etc. in the post COVID era.
Xin-Rong Lin, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City said to international friends that in 2021, with the support of the central government policy, Kaohsiung will develop Asia New Bay Area 5G AIoT innovation hub. It has over 600 acre’s space, and it will be Taiwan’s largest 5G AIoT innovative hub, with the largest exhibition buildings in Taiwan. Now that Kaohsiung is implementing zero pollution, high value-added, high economic impact industrial structure transformation. The central and local government, through public and private partnership, will collaborate and develop smart city era’s prelude.
